Employee Spotlight: Debbie Valliant

In 1973, Star Distribution brought a new employee on board for a temporary assignment as a Customer Service Representative (CSR), Debbie Vaillant. As part of the Star family, Debbie made an impact on us in many different roles. She has held the positions of receptionist, head of data processing, assistant to the president, office manager, bookkeeper, and V P of Administration.

As computer systems began to make their mark on industries around the country, Debbie was educated by IBM personnel on how to use the new hardware. She was asked by the company to help select software developed for and specifically geared toward managing the needs of our industry.

Debbie coordinated the EDI requirements of our clients and maintained the numerous LTL tariffs. In 1999, she worked diligently with a team of employees to transition Star to software that would be able to withstand the challenges ofY2K. Over the years, she has participated and coordinated numerous software and hardware upgrades. Adjusting to meet the needs of our employees and clients is the only way to remain on the cutting-edge of the industry and Debbie has always been dedicated to this philosophy.

As part of her responsibilities, Debbie traveled around the country offering her personal knowledge and sharing information about the Star warehouse, trucking and the distribution business. She participated in corporate events which included, white water rafting, deep sea fishing, golfing, and horseback riding. She particularly enjoyed staying at The Greenbrier, a historical resort, and attending the America’s Cup in San Diego. Flying in a Lear Jet was a highlight she will not forget.

Today we are saying a tearful goodbye to Debbie Vaillant as she prepares to retire from her current position as Controller. Debbie’s plans for the next chapter of her life begin with a cruise to Alaska, increasing her community involvement, enjoying her family, and exploring her creative side.

Thank you, Debbie, for your 45+ years of loyal service as a crucial part of our Star Distribution family.
