Bobby Tyson: Making Logistics Easier for Customers

Star Distribution offers an extra layer of value-added services, Over-the-Road Freight Management, in addition to order fulfillment, warehousing and LTL freight consolidation with Bobby Tyson at the helm as Vice President of Truckload Operations. Tyson joined the Star team in 2013 and brought two decades of OTR transportation experience, expertise, and knowledge to the organization when Star Transport Logistics was founded as a subsidiary of Star Distribution Systems, Inc.

Star Transport Logistics is responsible for procuring the most effective mode of transportation based on the individual customer’s needs. By consolidating clients’ warehousing, transportation, and freight management services into an easy one point of contact, Star can explore additional cost-saving solutions to provide the best, most efficient supply-chain model possible in the state of Florida.

Tyson’s team determines whether to move loads on Star’s asset-based fleet or to outsource the loads utilizing a third-party truck or rail carrier to streamline shipping costs. By coordinating these services and leveraging Star’s volume from the 1.5 million square-foot warehousing facility in Plant City, Florida, customers receive incredible, year-round service.

In August 2019, Star Transport Logistics added another competitive advantage by implementing McLeod Software’s state-of-the-art Transportation Management System.

“This system is an investment into the future of Star Distribution,” Tyson explained. “It allows my team complete visibility and real-time data flow to ensure our customers know exactly where their load is at all times.”

“Through Bobby’s terrific management, dedication and loyalty to Star Transport Logistics, we’ve been able to grow this division by double digits annually since inception,” said Larry Jimenez, Vice President of Business Development for Star Distribution Systems.

“Adding an OTR division was a no-brainer,” said Jimenez. “We are uniquely positioned to offer complex pool distribution and cross-docking models that are highly effective and increase speed to market.”
